Environmental Working Group

From the Ground Up, Up, Up

We built an army of activists to fight the DARK Act with Environmental Working Group.

If EWG were going to challenge the DARK Act and fight a ban on GMO labeling, we knew: They needed a substantially larger army of activists. So the very second EWG made the DARK Act their focus, we set to work running ads to recruit activists, sending emails to facilitate congressional outreach at key moments and optimizing every piece of copy, image and landing page to maximize conversions.

Over the course of a year-long campaign, we:

Stalled the DARK Act in Congress.

Drove more than 750,000 actions online.

Recruited more than 500,000 social activists.

Grew the audience by nearly 250,000 supporters in a single year.

Raised $600,000 in 2016 for EWG, almost exclusively through the DARK Act campaign, and increased their audience by nearly 200,000 supporters.

When we started with EWG eons ago (they were our first client), they had almost no online fundraising program. We promised them one day they’d raise $1 million online. EWG now has an audience of more than 1.4 million email subscribers and raises $2 million annually online.
